In 2019, the Rev. Cristina Rathbone left her Boston-based ministry among unhoused people to spend time at the U.S.–Mexico border, where families were being separated under the government’s “zero tolerance” policy. Out of this experience came The Asylum Seekers: A Chronicle of Life, Death, and Community at the Border—a powerful testament to resilience, faith, and accompaniment.

In this book, Rathbone invites us to witness the extraordinary courage of asylum seekers who built community and dignity against impossible odds, and to reflect on what it means to be people of faith in a broken world. Together, we’ll explore how stories of hope and solidarity at the border can transform us—calling us to deeper compassion, action, and courage in our own communities.
Come as you are—ready to listen deeply, bear witness, and be transformed by stories of hope and faith at the border.
